A Message from the Director
Summer was off to a very rainy start and New Hartford-ites wondered if they would ever see the sun, but the season has pushed into overdrive lately, and the heat wave has had all of New Hartford cooling off at West Hill Lake, searching for some shade, or enjoying ice cream from the Brodie Snack Shack.
Moving into Fall and Winter, we've got some new classes as well as old favorites. Look inside for dates and times. Despite the unpredictable weather, campers had some summer fun. I can't say it better than the campers and families that enjoyed Camp Brodie.
Our 3 young children attended Camp Brodie this summer. They loved it! When we asked them about their favorite activities, some of the things they mentioned were going to the beach, art, field trips, playing games, and "watching rockets blast off and parachute down". They also made a lot of new friends. Thank you to everyone for a successful camp experience...they're already talking about camp for next summer!
Sincerely,
--Kara, Stan, Franky, Parker, and Steele Brobston
My 3 children attended several weeks of Camp Brodie this summer. My son Evan told me he loved the new Star Wars dodge ball "because it was fast and fun.” He also especially enjoyed swimming every day and bowling field trip he went on. He told me that all the counselors were nice. My daughter Victoria said she loved swimming too, being at the beach, going on field trips, and just being able to be there with her brothers. My son Trevor told me that he really liked the new dodge ball game too. He also commented that he liked that everyone took care of him if he got hurt.
But here's the best part. The dog sled/huskies that was scheduled as a special guest couldn't make it the first week of camp due to their truck breaking down on the way there. But, Dennis and Christy allowed my children to come back on the day that they were able to make it to enjoy the presentation although they weren’t scheduled for camp that week. I even went, and it was quite interesting. We all learned a great deal and the dog owners were especially good with ALL of the children. They were patient, answered their questions, let them feed the dogs and even gave some of the counselors a ride! The event was fun and educational. All of the staff seemed to be in tune with the children’s levels and needs.
Thank you Dennis and Christy for running a fine summer program!

With our efforts often focused on managing rising costs due to the popularity of New Hartford Parks and facilities, it truly is great to hear that campers have enjoyed the summertime activities at Brodie Park. We strive to put on a program that will allow campers to create fond memories to last a lifetime while still being affordable for families and cost effective for the Town. As always, we are committed to making your Parks and Recreation Department the best it can be.
Warm Regards,
Dennis Minor
